About
Through her roles as a mother, wife, missionary, and author, she inspires others with tales of resilience, mercy, and the transformative power of unwavering belief.
Susan Hamlin’s journey from the jungles of Papua New Guinea to the prairies of Nebraska is a testament to faith, resilience, and unwavering love.
Susan Hamlin is a devoted mother, wife, missionary, and now emerging writer whose life has been shaped by deep faith and profound experiences. Born in Texas and raised in Morehead City, North Carolina, she spent 17 years in Papua New Guinea with her husband, Newton, and their children, Miriam and Nate, where they dedicated themselves to linguistics and Bible translation. As a mother, Susan has navigated the challenges of raising an adopted son who wandered, channeling her self-discipline, hospitality, and trust in Jesus into decades of prayer and family care—preparing over 55,000 meals along the way. Today, residing in Nebraska, she draws from her missionary background and personal trials to inspire others through her writing and speaking engagements, echoing God’s mercy in everyday struggles.
A powerful sense of being “carried” by God through the process
As a first-time author, she shares her heartfelt story in Echoes of Mercy: Testimony of a Prodigal’s Mom, offering hope to parents navigating similar paths. She fasted for a week in the mornings specifically to see if the Lord wanted her to write. After receiving confirmation in her heart and from her husband, they set out on the journey to write and edit her memoirs about God’s work in her parenting.

Susan and Newton Hamlin
Missionary work, family, and writing
Serving alongside her husband, Newton, in the mission field of Papua New Guinea for seventeen years, where they dedicated themselves to linguistics and Bible translation. She learned the painful yet freeing truth that her job was not to rescue her son, but to stand firm in hope, take her position on her knees, and trust God with the battle.
